Beginning the 2005 Season


Now beginning his tenth season with the New York Giants, Amani Toomer is the most productive wide receiver in Giants’ franchise history.  His accomplishments highlight his nine years as a wide receiver as well as six years as a punt returner.

Regular Season Franchise Records:

Amani holds the franchise record for the most yards gained in a single season with 1343 yards gained in 2002 and is #3 on the franchise list with 1183 yards gained in 1999.  He is #8 with 1094 yards gained in 2000, #9 (tied with Homer Jones) with 1057 yards gained in 2003 and #10 with 1057 yards gained in 2001.

Amani holds the records for the most 100-yard receiving games with 21 and the most consecutive games with a pass reception with 98 catches between 1998-2004.

He tops the list of Giants career yardage leaders with 7113 yards.

Amani is #1 with 82 receptions in 2002, #2 with 79 receptions in 1999, #3 with 78 receptions in 2000 and tied for #6 with 72 receptions in 2001.

Over a three-year span, Amani tops the list with 232 catches for the period 2000-02.  He’s #2 with 229 receptions between 1999-01, #3 with 217 catches between 2001-03 and #4 with 196 receptions between 2002-04.

He has at least 1000 receiving yards in 5 consecutive seasons and more than 50 receptions and 700 yards in 6 consecutive seasons.

With 469 career receptions, Amani is #2, 5 catches behind Tiki Barber.

Amani is tied for 2nd place for the most touchdowns scored in a single game with 3 touchdowns scored at Indianapolis in 2002.

His 204 yards gained at Indianapolis put him in 3rd place for the most yards gained in a single game.  He’s #6 with 193 yards gained on 12/23/00 against Jacksonville.

Amani is #4 on the Giants’ franchise list with 37 career touchdowns.


As a Punt Returner: (1996-01)

Amani Toomer holds the record for the longest punt return in franchise history, 87 yards and a touchdown against Buffalo on 9/1/96.

He tops the list for the highest average return in one season, with 16.6 yards based on 18 returns in 1996.

Amani is in 2nd place with 2 touchdowns in one season and 3rd place with 3 touchdowns in his career as a return man.

He is in 3rd place for the highest average return for a career with a 10.1-yard average based on 101 returns between 1996-2001.

Now entering his ninth season, Amani Toomer holds most of the New York Giants’ franchise records and those remaining appear to be in dire jeopardy. His accomplishments highlight his eight years as a wide receiver as well as six years as a punt returner, all with the New York Giants.

Amani holds the franchise record for the most yards gained in a single season.  During the 2002 season, Amani moved into first place with 1343 yards, breaking the 35 year old record set by Homer Jones in 1967.

He begins the 2004 season with 6366 career yards, having eclipsed Frank Gifford’s longstanding franchise record of 5434 yards in 2003.

He is #1, (2002-82 receptions) #2, (1999-79 receptions) #3 (2000-78 receptions) and #7 (2001-72 receptions) with the most pass receptions in a single season.

Over a 3-year span, Toomer tops the honor roll with 232 receptions, (2000-02) is in 2nd place with 229 receptions (1999-2001) and also claims 3rd place with 217 receptions. (2001-2003)

 Amani is in 1st place with the most consecutive games played (83) with a pass reception.

Although normally not found on any page of statistics, off the field honors also represent the measure of a man.

Both for excellence on the field as well as his dedication to helping others, in 2003 Amani Toomer received the Giants Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

In 2003 Amani Toomer was also named the Giants Man of the Year for his numerous charitable activities.

During the 2002 season, the United Way of NYC honored him as a Hometown Hero, again for his charitable endeavors.

Long after his yards receiving have faded from memory, the playgrounds that Amani is building in New York City will remain as an enduring record of this young man’s journey through life.

When quarterback Kerry Collins looks to throw a long pass, where better to look than in Amani Toomer’s direction? The tenth longest pass completion and reception in franchise history (as measured in yards) was thrown by Collins to Toomer for 82 yards and a touchdown at Indianapolis, 12/02/02.

Amani holds the franchise record for the most yards gained in a single season.
In 2002, Amani moved into first place with 1343 yards, breaking the record set by Homer Jones in 1967. His 1,343 yards placed him 2nd in the NFC and 3rd in the NFL for the 2002 season.

With 355 career receptions, Amani is currently #3 among the Giants’ top ten receivers. Before the end of the 2003 season, Amani is likely to surpass both Frank Gifford, currently in the #2 spot with 367 receptions, and Joe Morrison, now topping the list, with 395 receptions.

He is in 5th place (tied with several players) for the most pass receptions in one game.

He tied an NFL postseason record with the three touchdown receptions. Amani caught eight passes for 136 yards, the third highest total by a Giant in the postseason.

"Amani Toomer caught two passes for 57 yards. Toomer has 356 career receptions. He moved past Chris Calloway and into third place on the team's career list. Toomer is the most prolific receiver in team history among players who were exclusively wide receivers. The top two players on the list - Joe Morrison and Frank Gifford -were primarily running backs.

Toomer scored his eighth touchdown of the season, and seven in six games, setting personal record for touchdowns in a season. The touchdown was the 32th of his career, tying him with Bob Schnelker for seventh on the franchise's all-time list. The team record is held by Kyle Rote with 48 touchdown receptions.
