Amani’s Records Beginning the 2008 Season

Amani Toomer begins the 2008 season as the most productive wide receiver in the New York Giants’ franchise history.  Now beginning his 13th season, Amani’s accomplishments span 12 years as a wide receiver and six years as a punt returner.

As a wide receiver:

Aside from holding the franchise record with 82 catches in 2002, he’s also in 2nd place with 79 receptions in 1999, 3rd place with 78 catches in 2000 and 8th place with 72 receptions in 2001.

Amani is in 2nd place in franchise history with 10,344 all-purpose yards.

He is in 4th place with 1183 yards gained in 1999, 9th place with 1094 gained in 2000 and 10th place with 1057 yards gained in 2003.

He is tied for third place with 204 yards gained in a single game and sixth place with 193 yards gained in a single game.

Toomer is tied for 2nd place with 12 receptions in a single game.

He is tied for 4th place with three touchdowns in a single game.

Amani has played in 174 regular season games, 7th in franchise history.

As a punt returner: 

Toomer holds the record-setting 87-yard touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in 1996.  In the same game he had 113 yards returned, good for 5th place in Giants’ franchise records.

He holds the franchise record with an average return of 16.6 yards in a single season (1996).

He is 2nd in the record books with two touchdowns returned in a single season and 3rd with three touchdowns for his career.

Amani is tied for 3rd in franchise history with 47 punts returned and 6th with 455 yards returned both in 1997.

He is in 3rd place with an average return of 10.1 yards for his career as a returner and 5th place with a total of 1060 yards returned.

Post-season:

During last year’s successful run to the Lombardi Trophy, Amani led the Giants in all three categories with 21 receptions for 280 yards and three touchdowns.

Amani holds the franchise record for the most receptions in a single season with 82 catches in 2002.  He’s also in 2nd place with 79 receptions in 1999, 3rd place with 78 catches in 2000 and 8th place with 72 receptions in 2001.

Amani leads all Giants’ receivers with 98 consecutive games with a reception.

He is first in franchise records with 8,157 yards gained in his career and 1343 yards gained in a single season (2002).
He also is in 4th place with 1183 yards gained in 1999, 9th place with 1094 yards gained in 2000 and 10th place with 1057 yards gained in 2003.

With 561 career receptions, Amani is 2nd in franchise records.

He is tied for 2nd place with 47 career touchdowns, only one touchdown behind record holder Kyle Rote.

Amani is tied for 2nd place with 3 touchdowns in a single game and is in 3rd place with 12 pass receptions in a single game.

He is tied for 3rd place with 204 yards gained in a single game and is in 6th place with 193 yards gained in a single game.

With his 82-yard reception gained vs. Indianapolis on 12/22/05, Amani is in 10th place in Giants’ franchise records.



As a punt returner:


Amani holds the franchise record for the longest punt return in Giants’ history with his 87 yard touchdown return vs. Buffalo on 9/1/96.

Amani has the highest average return in Giants’ history for a single season with a 16.6-yard average gained in 1996.

With 2 touchdowns in 1996 Amani is in 2nd place in franchise records.

His 3 touchdowns for his career as a punt returner puts Amani in 3rd place in franchise records.

With 47 punts returned in 1997 Amani is 4th in franchise records for the most returns in a single season.

He is in 5th place with 1060 punt return yards for his career and 6th place with 455 yards returned in a single season (1997).

For a single game, Amani is in 5th place with 113 yards returned vs. Buffalo on 9/1/96.

For his career Amani’s average return, based on 101 returns, is 10.1 yards.

 

Post Season Achievements:

Amani holds the Giants’ record with 18 points and 3 touchdowns scored at San Francisco on 1/5/03.

With his post-season career average of 14.4 yards per catch, Amani is 1st in Giants’ franchise records.

He is tied for 1st place with 4 career touchdowns in the post season.

Amani is in 2nd place in the Giants’ record book with 302 total yards receiving for his post-season career and 3rd place with 136 yards receiving in a single game.
